TAMARELLE-WEBER ALEXANDRE
Game designer / Level designer / Tech Designer
About me
Solo game developer and currently looking for a job as a Game Designer, I’m very interested in video games that deliver a real sense of adventure to the player, such as RPGs, immersive sims, and more. I want to specialise in the creation of combat systems and game prototyping. I’m also very interested in progression systems and narrative design. Because of recent projects I’ve worked on, I’ve also developed a strong interest in level design.
My ambition is to one day work on a game that inspires the same passion in others that the games I played in the past have inspired in me.
My current video game obsession
I currently have a passion for video games from the early 2000s. A time of incredible experimentation for franchises that are now very well known, even if some have faded into obscurity (like Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia). I'm especially passionate about one of my favourite series, Shin Megami Tensei by Atlus. While today they are best known for Persona 5 or Metaphor: ReFantazio, I believe their golden age was twenty years ago, when they took bold creative risks with games like Shin Megami Tensei III, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Survivor, and Strange Journey.

My favourite time of the year
Steam Next Fest, obviously. It’s the perfect period to test lots of games and discover interesting game design ideas. And sometimes, I find hidden gems that I would never have discovered otherwise, and they go straight onto my wishlist.
My sworn enemy
I'm perfectly calm when I play video game, except for one fighting games. I don’t know any other type of game that can deliver such an intense adrenaline rush or be as challenging as a fighting game. And as someone who really appreciates character design, this genre is a must-have for me. I especially love the games developed by Arc System Works (BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising).
That said, I have a conflicted relationship with fighting games. Even though I love playing them, I get so emotionally invested that sometimes I think it's better to take a step back and give myself some distance.

My most expansive passion
I’m a big fan of TCGs and DCGs, even though my experience in the genre isn’t very extensive, I think. I love the cards themselves but also the infinite strategies you can create with the huge number of cards that grow with each expansion. My favorite moments are when we create rogue strategies that are completely unexpected. Maybe that’s why I love Yu-Gi-Oh! so much. I also really like Flesh and Blood with its tri-resource system, and Shadowverse.
But, like fighting games, I tend to distance myself from these games sometimes because they are really time-consuming and expensive.
Have you noticed ?
Well, I have studied History at university. Some of my favorite game series, like Assassin's Creed and Shin Megami Tensei, are inspired by history and/or mythology, and the game I'm working on is also inspired by both. I think that's obvious at this point.
I also find it fun to see different interpretations of the same character in different series.

I love dragon !
I think I don’t need a deep explanation, dragons are just awesome.
Why not make a game? How many dragons can you find on this page?
The answer is just below!
There are 9 dragons on this page:
1 at the top left of the Steam Next Fest triangle gallery, from the game Dragon Spot.
2 in the fighting games gallery, on the right of the main characters section:
-
Dragon Knight from DNF
-
Versusia from Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.
5 in the Cards gallery, from right to left:
-
Arsenal Dragunity Gram from Yu-Gi-Oh!
-
Bernite, Anathena of Flame from Shadowverse
-
Dromai, Ash Artist from Flesh and Blood
-
Shyvana from Legends of Runeterra
-
N and Zorua from Pokémon are not dragons.
-
